COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Kiwanis International is organized into clubs, divisions, districts and international. This multi-leveled leadership hierarchy means members are supported by a larger network of leaders who are prepared to help clubs be successful while improving communities.

What is the structure of Kiwanis?

What is the cost to join Kiwanis Carolina Forest?

Our Kiwanis fiscal year runs from October to September, and the price varies according to when you join. Costs $180 for a full year.

How much time will I need to commit?

A member is not necessary to attend projects, conversations, or events in order to participate. The beauty is in that! You choose what you want to accomplish and when you want to participate based on your schedule. You should attend as many club meetings as you can because they are enjoyable and serve as a means of deciding what to do next.

Where and when are the meetings and projects?

We aim to have a social event or in-person get-together around once a month and organize a number of service initiatives throughout the month. Weeknights will see some projects and events, while weekends will see others.  We do our best to meet the needs of as many people as possible by offering events at different times and places. Feel free to offer your assistance in planning a project or event whenever and wherever it is most convenient for you! Find out more about the volunteer work we've done here.

What does the name Kiwanis mean?

The name "Kiwanis" was coined from an American Indian expression, "Nunc Kee-wanis," which means, "We trade." In 1920, the motto of Kiwanis  became “We Build.” It remained the motto until 2005, when members voted  to change it to “Serving the children of the world.” In the early years,  members focused on business networking but now the organization changed its focus to service — specifically service to children.

If you want to make a difference in the lives of kids and teens, finding like-minded people to collaborate with is a great first step.  The immense sense of fulfillment that comes from making a positive impact is within your reach.

When you work together for a common objective, you form bonds of friendship and camaraderie that are hard to break.  Being a part of an organization with hundreds of thousands of members all over the globe who share your values and beliefs is something to be proud of.  Your sphere of influence and the opportunity for networking can grow.
